Te Kura’s early childhood education service is a free, individualised programme for children aged two to six years old. It is designed by registered early childhood teachers who are based in Wellington.
Our teachers work in partnership with your whānau using the New Zealand early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki, to create and develop an individual programme of learning for your child.
You will be sent a range of learning materials by post, including books, puzzles, games, CDs and DVDs. Some of these will be for your child to keep.
Ideas and information
You will receive information about child development as well as ideas for play activities and learning experiences for your child.
You and your child will access some of their learning resources online using My Te Kura. My Te Kura is our ‘online learning environment’. Your teacher will work with you to incorporate online learning into your child’s programme.

You and your child’s teacher can maintain regular contact through our free phone number, email, letters and online presence, Storypark. You are welcome to drop in to the Te Kura office and meet your teacher.
Where possible, we hold day events throughout the country that offer you and your children a chance to meet Te Kura teachers and the other families who live in your area.
You will typically receive four weeks of work at a time. Your child’s teacher will assess returned work and send a new programme of learning, which is tailored to your child’s current interests and learning needs. A return date is generally noted on the comments sheet.
